♥♥♥PRETENDING SMILES♥♥♥

Jake and Monica are couples. They are in love with each other for more than 5 months. They studies in AIS school. Everyday when it is near 9pm, Monica phones Jake. They talk about everything they think. It makes them understand each other more.

Then one day, Jake tells Monica,”I am really busy in my homework and my evening class so just call me on weekend.”

In class, except some periods they sit next to each other, they don’t talk much same as in the past. At weekend, when they go out, it is the only time they can spend for each other but that time is so short. In addition, because caring of Monica’s health, Jake doesn’t let her speak on the phone over 10pm. Good night is the last sentence that every call he says to her. But for her, it seems opposite. She sleeps then she awakes. Every night she can’t sleep well and it makes her more tired. She feels sad but she still pretends smile. She doesn’t want him to be worried about her.

Then one day, when Jake crosses the street to get on his dad’s motorbike. Suddenly, there is also a motorbike rides toward him. Monica pushes him away immediately and the motorbike bumps her. Her bodyguards take her to a hospital immediately. Fortunately, it is just a small problem. Her legs don’t break but the doctor says that she still has to take a rest in the hospital for 1 week so he can watch for her legs. In addition, the doctor says that she has to less walking and shouldn’t run. Everyday, her friends go to the hospital and visit her. Jake goes to the hospital only on Sunday and he just stays for an hour. It makes her fell sad. When her sister and brother know that she has an accident, they come back to Vietnam as fast as they can. Besides them, her sister’s boyfriend and her sister’s boyfriend’s brother also come back. They are really worried about her, especially Leo who is Monica’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother. He likes her. When they just arrive at the airport, they run to the hospital right away. But they just can stay here for 2 weeks then they have to return to America because they are busy in managing the company. But Leo says that he will stay here until Monica gets better.

After 1 week, she goes to school again. Everyone is really happy and help Monica about her school works. Besides them, the teachers also really care about her. But there is still something is missing. Jake doesn’t care about her much. It makes she fell bad. About Leo, everyday in the morning he takes her to school. In the evening he picks her up and then takes her home. He waits until Monica goes to sleep then he can go home. Then her parents talk about she should go to America this summer. Monica refused it quickly.

“No Daddy! I don’t want to go to America. I just want to stay here!” Monica says.

“I know the reason why you don’t want to go to America but…” Her mom says.

“Pleassssssseeee… Give me one more month. I want to think about it!” she says with a sad voice.

“Okay!” her parents agree.

She and Jake don’t talk much. Day passes day with a sad feeling and she feels contradictory about everything between her and him. She decides to invite Jake goes to cinema on this Saturday.

“Jake, do you free on this Saturday?” she asks.

“Yes!” Jake replies.

“Can you go to the cinema at 10am?” she asks with a well happy pretending face.

“Okay!” Jake answers and then goes away.

Saturday is coming. Long time they don’t go out with each other. And Jake feels today Monica is so strange. She is so quiet and mild. But for Monica today is really important. Today is the day she decides to stay in Vietnam or not. They watch funny film. They laugh a lot. She just wants this film will never end. But she feels that there is still something cannot cling her to stay here. When we finish watching the movie, it’s time for us to go home. Unfortunately, it is raining outside.

She told him with a small voice,” Sorry but I think we should break up!”

“Why?” Jake are so surprised about it.

“Don’t say anything, okay?” Then she gives him a blue umbrella with Mickey Mouses are smiling. “When it is raining, you use it and then you can remember my happy face when I’m not here.”

Then she runs to her car although the doctor says she shouldn’t run.

That night, she phones to her best friend, Angelina. She tells her all what she did and she felt at that time. She cries a lot. Her best friend thinks that has to do something to help her friend. In the next morning, Jake is really surprised because Monica is still happy, still smile. And her actions seem like everything on yesterday didn’t have. Then Angelina calls him out and talks.

She said,: I know that it is wrong when I divulge Monica’s secret but I think I have to tell you. She’ll go to America.”

“What? That’s why she wanna break up?” Jack asks back quickly.

Angelina shouts angrily,”It’s not because of that stupid reason, man! It’s just because of your indifferent character. She can’t stand of your character.”

“Really? She can tell me to change it or it’s just because she likes Leo already.”

“You are a idiot! She just doesn’t want you to be sad. She refused Leo already. And she still not tells her decision to her parents. She wants to give you a chance”

“A chance?”

“ Why are you so stupid?”Angelina are really angry now.

“So what can I do now?” Jake asks quietly.

Angelina smiles and says,”Just do what you think is right!” Then she goes to the classroom.

Jake starts to change a lot. He cares more about Monica. He helps Monica to carry her bag up floor and then down floor. He waits until she finishes her lunch then he will go downstairs with her. Everything seems to change all. Monica’s legs now get better.

“Do you free on this Saturday?” Jake asks hesitantly.

“Yes!” Monica answers.

“So…” He looks puzzled and he scratches his head,” Can you go to the cinema at 10 am like us used to do?”

Monica smiles,” Yes, of course!”

On Sunday, Monica goes to the cinema. She sees Jake is standing and waiting for her. It seems like he is hiding something behing his back.

“Hi!” Jake runs to Monica.

“Hi! Am I late?”

“No, no! I’ve just came her too early.”

“Ouh… What are you hiding behind your back? Can I see it?” Monica feels so curious about it.

“Close your eyes and then I’ll let you know!” Jake says with a happy voice. “Okay, now you can open your eyes!”

Monica is so surprised. She cannot believe in her eyes. It is a bunch of roses,” Woah! It is so beautiful!”

“Do you like it? Give you!” Then he softly kisses on her cheek.

Her face all red,”It is the first time you give me roses!”

“I’m sorry! So come back to me, okay? Pleaseeeeeeee…….. Don’t go to America!”

“Uhm…!” Then she smiles.

And how can these smiles are pretending???
